I feel very unaccomplished in the academic arena. I always pictured myself having a demanding job in a place far removed from where I am now. But as always life takes me in other directions...<br /><br />Anywho, I've been working on a lot of custom knitting this summer. In fact I have been knitting customs since May and I am getting near my end both in items requiring my attention and my attention itself. I am taking a long break from knitting customs. I may start up again after the first of the year. I am taking this break to knit for myself and my family, something I hardly ever get to indulge in. I do enjoy knitting for other people and I may on occasion take a random one here and there but there will be no customs stocked through my store nor will I be offering them up for trade.<br /><br />With that being said, here is what I have been working on this summer.....<br /><br />A TINY Tea Leaves cardigan knit for a local yarn store in Colorado as a store sample:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4735910308/" title="102_1361 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4121/4735910308_d141c122ba.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="102_1361" /></a><br /><br />A Hudson Hat as a custom:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4755213369/" title="102_1410 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4139/4755213369_83d2fed64c.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="102_1410" /></a><br /><br />Corseted Mitts for Aunt Barbie:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4880661401/" title="102_1898 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4119/4880661401_21869971bf.jpg" width="500" height="357" alt="102_1898" /></a><br /><br />A Travelling Woman shawl for a trade:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4928820661/" title="102_2080 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4096/4928820661_0d5a92a0ab.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="102_2080" /></a><br /><br />On to the handspun:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4731003749/" title="102_1349 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1175/4731003749_f7fac24acb.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="102_1349" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4738782837/" title="102_1394 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4121/4738782837_be4fd20563.jpg" width="460" height="500" alt="102_1394" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4768865768/" title="102_1441 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4095/4768865768_fd5935eea8.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="102_1441" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4784500292/" title="102_1495 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4122/4784500292_6d0af98977.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="102_1495" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4831524109/" title="102_1672 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4129/4831524109_39e95e718f.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="102_1672" /></a>Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14591604379103030845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8615503295835196514.post-49650309347262226772010-05-16T17:47:00.000-07:002010-05-16T18:07:22.911-07:00Asparagus Overdye-meWay back in November, I bought this yarn:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4613783000/" title="102_0983 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4025/4613783000_da002a397c.jpg" width="500" height="370" alt="102_0983" /></a><br /><br /><br />I was going to make a really cool cardigan called Shalom. Problem with Shalom: it's not a sized pattern. It was written for a 6' tall skinny girl. Not so great when you're 5 ft and not so skinny. Well I tried knitting it and it didn't work out so well. During Ravelympics, I frogged it and put the yarn in the naughty yarn bin. I liked the feel of the yarn and the drape but the color was bad for me. I mean I could wear it for like a hat or a scarf, but when you're pushing 30 a bright blue sweater's not a good idea. <br /><br />So today, I was searching Ravelry desperately trying to find Madtosh Vintage in Tart or some other cool color to make a Calvados cardi for me. Then I found this other cardi called Austin's hoodie. That one's yarn is even harder to find. So this whole weekend all I did was search to no avail for these two yarns. <br /><br />Anywho, I started thinking about the Emmaline sweater and how cute it is and that I had this yarn I could use but it was the scary blue yarn. hhmph. I decided to overdye it. Which pretty much means that you dye something that is already dyed another color. In my heart of hearts I would have tried to copy Madtosh and attempt to produce Tart but I couldn't ever recreate that. I'm not that cool. I'll just keep searching in vain for that one. I grabbed some green and away we go!<br /><br />"Cooking" the yarn:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4613776542/" title="102_0985 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4028/4613776542_615eff4fc3.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="102_0985" /></a><br /><br />Drying the Yarn:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4613146853/" title="102_0993 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4026/4613146853_50427973fa.jpg" width="350" height="500" alt="102_0993" /></a><br /><br />Pretty yarn!:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4613065149/" title="102_0998 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3555/4613065149_060b7e5643.jpg" width="500" height="364" alt="102_0998" /></a><br /><br />All Skeined up!:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4613080775/" title="102_0996 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4046/4613080775_c30dfddd19.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="102_0996" /></a><br /><br />And last but not least. A custom pair of shorties:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/41820277@N04/4613771662/" title="102_0989 by mrschristinagriffith, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3343/4613771662_7a4333fe30.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="102_0989" /></a><br /><br />Progress on the Emmaline Cardi will come next week. :)Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14591604379103030845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8615503295835196514.post-62997298767046964832010-05-12T14:54:00.000-07:002010-05-12T16:44:41.628-07:00Knittin FoolSo lately I feel like I have been a knitting fool. Well not really. I posted an ISO (In Search Of) on DS (Diaper Swappers) asking for trades for my knitting. I had 4 people respond requesting 10 items. Yikes. Well here's some of the progress as well as the finished product of Michael's Romper. I have off from school this week so I should be able to put a dent in my obligations. :)<br /><br />First up: A sun Hat that will be stocking Here: <a href="http://www.hyenacart.com/mainstreet"></a><br /><a href="http://s617.photobucket.com/albums/tt259/christinagriffith/?action=view¤t=102_0950.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt259/christinagriffith/102_0950.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br />Next: A Handspun SunSuit:<br /> <a href="http://s617.photobucket.com/albums/tt259/christinagriffith/?action=view¤t=102_0949.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt259/christinagriffith/102_0949.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br />And....Some Longies I am working on for a trade:<br /><a href="http://s617.photobucket.com/albums/tt259/christinagriffith/?action=view¤t=102_0953.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt259/christinagriffith/102_0953.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br />And Then Michael's Romper:<br /><a href="http://s617.photobucket.com/albums/tt259/christinagriffith/?action=view¤t=102_0938.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt259/christinagriffith/102_0938.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br />I've also been spinning some. So today I am busy knitting for my step-neph who turns 1 in a few weeks, here's a pic of his 'lil romper. :)<br /><br /><a href="http://s617.photobucket.com/albums/tt259/christinagriffith/?action=view¤t=102_0889.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt259/christinagriffith/102_0889.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br />Today was also Spencer's birthday, he's 8.
